Review Part A: Scientific Excellence
Scientific excellence refers not only to excellence in research, but also to teaching and engagement in academic or non-academic contexts, including industry, government and the wider public. Assess the underlying scientific quality and rigour, as well as the applicant’s potential to further knowledge and innovation. Publication counts, citations and research funding should not be treated as decisive indicators without considering the applicant’s discipline, institution, resources and career path. Look for a clear contextualised account of achievements, relevance, skills, independence, challenges overcome, good scholarship, mentorship, teaching and contributions to research culture.
